"Americans used to say where there's a will, there's a way. Nowadays, it's where there's a pill, there's a way out." - - Burnt Toast

Now that the turkey has worn off. . .

Man, what a holiday. If I see another piece of turkey or ham it'll be too soon. Beef, it's what's for New Year.

So many newsworthy things happened during the break I don't even know where to start. So, I'll begin with a brief statement overheard during Christmas:

In reference to a Christmas hors d'oeuvres:

"What's that?"

"Well, that there is a sausage ball type apparatus in a biscuit-type situation."

Whatever it was, it was tasty!

On to the news:

For Christmas, the Council of Islamic Courts in Somalia got exactly what they didn't want. . .in the form of bombs from the Ethiopian Air Force. I read somewhere that one of the leaders of the Islamists characterized his fighters as snakes. Couldn't be any closer to the truth.

Dear ol' James Brown. Masterful musician and icon or drug-addled wife beater? You be the judge.

Saddam is also getting what he didn't want for Christmas. A very short rope. And an audience?

He also penned a letter to the Iraqi people where he states, "I call on you not to hate because hate does not leave space for a person to be fair and it makes you blind and closes all doors of thinking," said the letter. "I also call on you not to hate the people of the other countries that attacked us."

Such profound words, too bad he never believed them in his lifetime nor does it seem leftover Baathists believe them either. Goodbye and good riddance.

Ex-president Gerald R. Ford died. He'll never be recognized for his greatness no doubt.

And last but not least, cat persecution. Hell, they could never do anything about the chickens wandering the streets of Key West so they are going after the cats. What a bunch of pussies. Doesn't the USDA have better things to do? They can't even keep e. coli out of my Taco Bell Chalupa for Pete's sake!
