The Army has a new gun. . .not!
Very interesting article about the HK 416 carbine, but naturally the Army is slow to react.
Defines some of the problems with the M16 and M4, also highlights a couple examples of rifle failure in battle situation. Also highlights the development of the XM29 Objective Individual Combat Weapon, a gun I read about years ago in Popular Mechanics or some similar magazine. Zillions of dollars later and it's still unfeasable. Go figure.
Reminds me of that movie about the Bradley Fighting Vehicle called "The Pentagon Wars."
Major General Partridge: I'm not going to sit here and tell you the Paveway never missed.
Madame Chairwoman: It missed by a mean distance of five miles, and nearly fifty percent of the time.
Major General Partridge: You know, in baseball, a guy that hits .400 is considered pretty damned great.
Congressman #1: In baseball, the losing team isn't killed by their opponents.
