Upward And Onward. . .
I woke up this morning and had myself a beer.
No no no, in reality, I woke up this morning not sure what day it was and after uncovering myself from a heap of sleeping felines I realized it was Friday. Can I get an "amen" brothers and sisters?
This morning I find myself at a local school, waiting on concrete, and watching the mothers and fathers of Madison County drop their beautiful children off at school. I am thinking back to my days in school, something I loathed greatly, and am wondering about these children and their futures.
What kind of a world will it be when they are grown and in charge? Will we be any better off then than now? How are their tender minds being molded in the failing institution of public education? Are they being indoctrinated with progressive and liberal ideas or are they being taught to think and act for themselves? Valid questions.
Much is being made about the dust up between Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi as Newt proclaimed the GOP as the party of paychecks and branded the Democrats as the party of food stamps. Sorry Nancy, but Newt is right.
Democrats and their "progressive" policies have cultured a society of perpetual "hand holder outers" all in the name of compassionate politics for the less fortunate. The disturbing side effect of this is now we have generation after generation of people who believe that they are truly owed something for nothing. And this belief only perpetuates the dark and sinister illness of entitlement. We are breeding scads of uneducated whiney babies who have no will, inclination, or desire to contribute positively to society. And the working class of America? Well, we are paying for it in more than one way, but primarily through our hard earned tax dollars.
As our government creates more useless social programs and continues to gobble up our income through higher taxation, at some point in the future, the demand for more taxes will exceed the taxable working class' ability to fund a large proportion of our society that refuses to contribute to our economy. Instead, they suck the sweet milk of "free" programs that keep them fat and happy and the Democrats in power.
Today I will travel back in time to a special place and an era of chivalry and self-support which no longer exists in America. A small town with a significant history and the man who made it, all while carrying a big stick. Probably had a big set of balls too. Something lacking in today's America.
Wanna come along for the ride?
