When your right. . .
you're right.
Right again. Give it to me, one more time!
In yesterday's USA Today, author and USA Today contributor Ralph Peters penned an op/ed piece about the current ideological struggle between us (generally good, slightly deviant people) and them (psychotic, head-chopping, baby blowing up extremists). Now, he tries to split some philosophical hairs about ideas and identity and we ain't getting into that.
What is interesting in the article is the admission that, we will not win until some blood gets shed, in a serious way.
He writes, ". . .while throughout history most insurgencies failed, they had to be put down with substantial bloodletting. Across three millenia, I can find no major religion-driven insurgency that was suppressed without significant slaughter."
And Mr. Peters further states, "Historically, the common denominator of successful counterinsurgency operations is that only an uncompromising military approach works - not winning hearts and minds nor a negotiated compromise."
What this guy is trying to say for those of your how are easily confused with this type of codespeak is that we have got to bomb the living balls off of these people until they give up. They understand nothing less than extreme violence. They are steeped in it, live it everyday and have for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Frankly, they think we are a bunch of pussies simply because we are not allowed (i.e. rules of engagement, Geneva Convention, etc.) to fight the dirty war required to win against this seething hatred.
War is a dirty business and you can't wear white linen gloves trying to keep your hands clean. Break out the brass knucles.
