There Will Be Blood. . .

Since the collapse of the oil markets and the end of the political circus which is our presidential election, it has been quiet as a cricket fart in media and political circles concerning our need to develop our own natural resources, mainly oil.

With the price of oil nearing a decade old low price, the incentive to "drill here, drill now" has subsided. We're all fat and happy again and breathing huge sighs of relief everytime we fill our vehicles and it costs less than a hunge. Back to sleep at the wheel folks.

Yesterday's news that Israel has invaded the Gaza Strip, and rightfully so, brings the sobering news out of Iran of just how dependent we are on imported oil. I am sick of having to rely on the declared enemies of the United States for our energy needs and hearing some low-budget "commander" shoot his mouth off about trying to choke us off economically.

"Among the tactics the world of Islam can use to help the innocent Palestinian people, Bagherzadeh called oil one of the powerful elements of pressure on the Zionists' European and American supporters in the unequal war," IRNA said.

Nice. The world of Islam can choke on a goat dick for all I care. Especially as the world of Islam and particularly, the Muslims of Palestine continue to indoctrinate women and children with violence against all people, places and things that are not Islamic.

And while I'm at it, after we begin our own oil exploration, why don't we cut off the hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid that we send to puppet-states, dictatorial regimes and repressive kingdoms run by spoiled, hypocritical kings and princes in the Middle East. These people hate us, our way of life, and only tolerate us for our checkbook.

You can dream all the dreamy-dreams you want about electric cars, solar-powered lawn darts and clean coal-powered, organic Ziploc bags, but for now it's oil. And we need it, so let's drill for our own while the market works out the latest giz-whammy, doo-hickey or thing-a-ma-jig to save us from oil.

Oh how I so agree with you Brett. I have been saying this for about four months now (since gas prices began to drop) that we never seem to learn our lesson.

In June and July when gas hit about five dollars a gallon here in San Pedro all I heard was conserve, drill-drill-drill and now it's as if it never happened. We once again are repeating the same mistake.

Sometimes I just want to say fuck it. We keep on getting what we deserve. The beat goes on.....

The West can't give up the motor car but the truth is that the technology to make good non oil fuelled cars is out there now.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7456141.stm

The US consumer in particular has a poor choice in low fuel consumption vehicles with your manufactuers well off the mark with Recreational Vehicles and the inimitable 'pick up' being allowed to bypass what little regulation you had on emissions.

The result is that the big US manufactuers (with the possible exception of Ford), are in deep trouble, and maybe a decade behind the best of the Japanese and European technology and build standards.

Bailing them out every decade or so, just prolongs the agony of the required adjustments.

We in the UK put off the decisions about going more nuclear, because leftwing governments try to avoid making tough decisions, and now we face something of a bleak future for our power supplies.

Deja Vu as the French might smugly say.
