The Re-Exodus. . .

This is I-55 yesterday just south of Byram as the entire planet returned to Louisiana at once. Even after repeated pleas by officials to not come back yet.

Bu-bye. Bu-bye. No really, bu-bye. Ok, fucking leave already! Be sure to watch the accom. . .accompan. . .the video attached to the article.

Weather Update. . .

The weather has held here in Egypt Hill. The winds rose last night making creepy howling noises around the house, but the rain has held, although the first outer bands should be arriving inthe next couple of hours.

The news out of New Orleans is reporting that a tornado was sighted around Highway 49 in Gulfport, which is just a mile or two west of my office there. Now they are saying two reported tornadoes in Gulfport. I hope everything is ok down there. The sustained winds in Gulfport are around 40-plus miles per hour and surely the conditions will deteriorate.

The news is reporting the the winds are increasing in New Orleans and that localized damage is happening to billboards and signs.

Well, I guess we'll just continue to hunker down. One helluva of way to spend a holiday, huh?

Weather Update. . .

Although I am comfortably ensconced here in Egypt Hill the winds have begun to rise and sustain and there is worry.

I don't expect much ferocious weather this far north of the coast beyond the typical spinoff of tornadoes, heavy rain and winds, but we've prepared ourselves accordingly. Cuz you just never know, do you?

I wish the best for those people worst affected by Hurricane Gustav and may God bless and help them find their way through these difficult times.

Are there people wishing for the worst from this storm?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Exodus. . .

Here is a view of I-55 about 20 miles south of Jackson this morning around 11 a.m. The contra-flow for the interstate ends about 40 miles south of this point at Brookhaven and as you can see, the traffic is two-way.

In the photo above, some people have gotten smart and are using the east and west frontage roads to move north where traffic is virtually unimpeded. The frontage roads parallel I-55 from Terry to south Jackson for nearly 20 miles.

Another view from Dastardly Dad's perspective of the traffic creeping north at the Terry exit. Earlier it looked as if traffic was moving rather briskly, yet by mid-day it seemed to be slowing somewhat. From this point it is 170 miles due south to New Orleans.

Here is a picture of the town crazy man. He was traveling east. Go figure.
